Crombie appeared on Seinfeld’s fourth season, portraying a mentally troubled author named Joe Davola. Over a five-episode arc, his character develops an immense disdain for Jerry whereas turning into obsessive about Elaine (who he briefly dates). Within the episode “The Opera,” he famously clothes up in full make-up because the clown from the opera Pagliacci.
