With A Little Little bit of Why

He’s a songwriter, singer, instructor, painter, and man who climbs mountains in Colorado. He’s performs rock & roll and/or folks music, and writes songs as timeless and vivid as the gorgeous work he paints. His identify is Michael Wisniewski.

Now comes his latest album, this one among outdated songs he wrote again within the earlier century. It’s referred to as Seven Songs, that includes stunning tales of real-time heartfelt human soul, similar to “One Instructor.”

We invited him, just a few months again, if there have been 5 songs which have had a long-lasting affect on his life, and in that case, if he would share these with us, and some phrases about every selection. Final week we obtained his new CD within the mail, together with a hand-written record of songs – the primary time such a listing was despatched by actual mail. This can be a man who not solely remembers the world that was, however has not deserted it, as mirrored within the old-school timelessness of his songs, and the light, heartfelt spirit of this album. Right here is Michael’s Five Songs.

1. “Unhappy Eyed Girl of the Lowlands,” by Bob Dylan.
I’ve been haunted without end by this whole but contradictory portrait that rivals Picasso’s multifaceted ones. 

2. “China Cat Sunflower” – by The Grateful Useless (Written by Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia).
This one taught me that songs can have a visible construction. I see a cascading stream. 

3. “California,” by Joni Mitchell.
A track of longing and pleasure.

4. “Powderfinger.” by Neil Younger.
Neil’s narrator tells a tragic and compact story, fueled by Loopy Horse’s roar. 

5. “Alison,” by Elvis Costello. 
A wistful, twisted lyric, with a fantastic melody.
