Simply over the British border, in the breathtaking countryside of Wales, Penny Morrison and artwork vendor husband Man retreat from their busy lives in London to their lovely nation residence. Whereas the home was initially constructed in 1790 with an addition thirty years later, the Morrisons had been thrilled to find after they bought the property some 30 years in the past, that it hadn’t been touched since 1910. After a delicate 18 month renovation, Penny put her personal ornamental stamp on the interiors, thus catapulting her inside design profession. Please be a part of Susanna and me for a heavenly video go to with Penny at her bucolic nation residence.
Whereas the home definitely has an English nation sensibility at its roots, it’s made private and distinctive with daring hues and scale, incorporating an eclectic combine of materials, equipment and artwork. Mixing basic chintzes with Indian, Moroccan and Turkish textiles and rugs, in addition to her personal materials, Penny has created a fearless and but sublimely snug residence.
With huge vistas and sumptuous views,
all the primary flooring rooms, just like the charming breakfast room under, have fireplaces and entry to the terraces and gardens, making it a home that celebrates nature 12 months spherical.
All through, the outsized and intensive mixture of art work helps convey a dramatic sense of scale to the already beneficiant area, from the normal 19th century Robert Brough portrait in the drawing room at high to modern Scottish artist Robert Byrne’s piece in the eating room under.
And it’s these surprising pairings that distinguishes Penny’s work. Over time, she has step by step added her personal materials and equipment to the combo, as in the visitor bed room (the place I used to be fortunate sufficient to remain), under, the place her Begum wallpaper and Killi linen on the mattress hangings stay in daring but harmonious distinction with a enjoyable OKA throw and vintage Bessarabian rug.
Penny has, in my view, achieved the adorning trifecta – a house that’s directly stylish, snug and supremely private. Grounded with a powerful sense of place, but not restricted by its heritage, it’s, most significantly, an announcement of her personal story. Thanks Penny (and Man) in your hospitality – what a particular deal with to go to such a longtime favourite residence!
