It positively feels becoming that Jewel — who hails from Alaska — would see match to cowl Maggie Rogers’ 2016 debut single “Alaska.” Jewel, in fact, simply launched a brand-new album, Freewheelin’ Lady, which she spoke to us about final month. (And that interview led to a really, very long-overdue apology from Kurt Loder.) As for Rogers, her follow-up to 2019’s Heard It In A Previous Life — titled Give up — arrives July 29.

“There isn’t any place like Alaska,” writes Jewel in a press release. “After I first heard Maggie’s tune, I felt an instinctual draw to the scene she’d created, and the temper of the ‘air in between.’ Alaska has formed a lot of who I’m, and aware breathwork is a follow I take advantage of day-after-day, so I really feel a kindred connection to this tune.
